Transition Minehead and Alcombe (T.M.A.) is a group of like minded individuals from Minehead, Alcombe and the surrounding area, who support the idea of our community becoming more self-reliant, by working together and supporting each other.
We aim to improve Minehead and Alcombe’s resilience to the effects of climate change and resource loss, promoting a thriving community in which to live for generations to come.
Energy conservation is the most effective way of preventing climate change on a global scale and saving money on a personal one. With support from Minehead Town and West Somerset District Councils, Transition Minehead and Alcombe runs the Energy Saving Centre which is located in the former Traveline office in Summerland car park near the Co-op store in Minehead.
Over the past two years TMA and Forum 21 volunteers have accumulated a huge amount of information on energy efficiency as well as samples and models of products such as secondary double glazing and
The sowing season is here and there are seedlings everywhere, including volunteers’ conservatories and window sills. As usual we have probably sown too many, so any spares can go to the Plant Swap on 30th May. We try to hold this event as close to the end of May as possible as it should then be warm enough for the newly acquired plants to go straight out into the garden.
We have found that we never have enough onions, so there has been extensive planting of onion sets at the end of last year, along with lots of garlic to go with them. We are harvesting the last of the various kales and the purple and gold sprouting broccoli. We are watching the Broad Beans with interest as they are probably the favourite vegetable on the allotment and available early in the season.
